OK I know I have talked to a several people to get their inputs at Fall W. F. about next years Gypsy Festival. I know they said their is an event up north in July. I can't remember the name of it or when it is, All I remember is it is in July.

Please note this is not a Wild Fire event or not trying to compete with Wild Fire, Fire Drums, and any other major festival like that. Just good times with good people.

So with that being said, if the date of that festival does not fall on or close to July 23rd weekend, that is when the Gypsy Festival will be.

July 23 - 25, 2010
I am gonna ask for donations for the Port a john, and not a nasty one either, wrist bands and any other supplies need for the festival. The more donations I can raise the Better the pot, Please know, this is not going into my pocket. Please bring at least one can of fuel for the community fuel dump, and if you are breathing, Oil.

Tents Tents Tents. Yes their is plenty of room for tenting. 30 acres. Mostly woods. So come Fri and stay till Sun.

I am also thinking of maybe having a work shop or 2 for people who is interested in learning but never touched fire tools, or to learn from others. I have few ideas to try and get certain people out for the work shops. I am still working on the full details, but need to get this out so I can confirm the dates and to get the feed back from everyone. The Stomp brothers were here this year for another gathering I had. Just ask them about the area.

Vending. If you are a toy maker and would like to make a buck or 3, come set up and vend. Their is no vending fee. All I ask is that you keep it to the fire arts for vending.

That is all I can think of right now, but more to come.

Hope to see you for the first Gypsy Festival, and more to come I hope

Due to the move, I won't be burning this year :( but would love company and share the costs of the Penske truck. I need to be in VT by the 29th to turn the truck in. If interested, let me know.
Here’s the news on the boston to burningman truck:
There is a second container started…but only 16 shares have been sold! One of which is mine!
If it doesn’t sell out then it will be cancelled and I will be sad 
The shares are $390… yes this is a lot BUT…. If you team up with your friends… then you can get your camping equipment out to the playa for WAY cheap.. I think like 5 people could send out basic camping equipment in one share!
This will be FAR AND AWAY, WAY CHEAPER than paying the d-bags at the airline the extra cash on checked baggage fees… AND you would be helping other burners get their projects out to the playa..
Seriously… this is prolly the only way that the second truck is gunna happen… so I am calling for ALL you friggin awesome people that were gunna just pack tight and bring your stuff on the plane- like I usually do- to pack it tight and throw in some extra ‘cool clothes’ and maybe a few other bits and pieces that you usually do without out there and buy up a share on the container!

It really isn’t that much of a pain in the asss… plus loading and unloading would be a GREAT way to meet other burners and would help bring the vibe home for you!
We can SO make this happen…
I’ll pinch each and every one of you on the ass if it does!
Thanks …. The jason
This kitchen area is supposedly not happening this year, and we realize we've got no camp stove of our own.
Like lots of y'all money's tight. Buying a stove, especially when it won't seen enough use other times to really justify it's purchase? A waste.
Is the area where coffee and tea is provided also an area where people can heat up other things?
Our needs are small. Last year we made do with Indian MRE's and other items that really only needed to be heated up briefly in a sauce pan.
If I bring my own pan and utensils, would it be wrong of me to hope that I might have a burner on a stove to use?
I can provide everything else, and more then clean up after myself. I just need access to a stove.

Important Announcements about Firefly 2009!
==========================================

* NEW LOCATION of the event;
* NEW TICKETING process;
* Your VOLUNTEERING is NEEDED more than ever!

New Location:
------------

This year Firefly will be taking place in central Vermont, about 2.5 hours North of Boston. This is a new land, but we are optimistic about it based on what we've seen so far. It appears like it may be less muddy and otherwise not as rough on the event as we're used to by now. It is somewhat similar to the land from the first Firefly, for those of us who were there.

Please note that due to traffic and parking concerns with the new land:

* There is no re admittance to Firefly.
* Carpooling is highly encouraged.

Volunteering:
------------

Firefly is still run and organized by volunteers!

http://fireflyartscollective.org/tiki-index.php?page=Volunteers

Everything from managing ticket sales to wood gathering is up to the participants - THIS EVENT HAPPENS BECAUSE OF YOUR HELP. Please take a moment to think about how you will contribute this year. To get involved make contact through the Volunteer page above or email one of the group organizers. If in doubt, contact the volunteer coordinator at:

volunteer@fireflyartscollective.org.

Ticketing (NEW!):
----------------

Tickets are still $40/each and are only available before the event. There will not be any ticket sales at the gate. We are limiting sales to 3 tickets per person.

This year we will sell tickets in three blocks of 150, on three different days, at different times. We recognize that not everyone has access to the internet all day long, so hopefully this will give people with sporadic access a chance to get tickets, too. Here is the official release schedule for tickets:

* Thursday, May 28 - 8:00pm
* Friday, May 29 - Noon
* Saturday, May 30 - 10AM

Ticket Ordering Process:
-----------------------

To order tickets you must first register with a working email address and enter in your mailing information so we can mail you tickets. You can register when ticket sales begin, but we strongly recommend you pre-register beforehand, this way your ordering process will go smoother. Preregistration is open right now:

http://fireflyartscollective.org/ticketing/

Preregistering does not guarantee you a ticket - it will just speed up the process once the sales begin.

Note on the working email address requirement: We need a verified address to have a way to communicate with you before the event. Please note that all major email providers (like google, yahoo, etc.) filter their incoming messages for spam - and sometimes non-spam messages end up in your junk mail folder. We have found that Yahoo is the biggest culprit of both not delivering email or delaying its delivery. So please check your junk mail folder and white-list ticketing@fireflyartscollective.org if this is a problem. Normally, you should receive a confirmation message from us almost immediately.

Payment
-------

Firefly only accepts credit card payments through PayPal - other methods such as personal checks have proven to be a bigger headache than PayPal is. When ordering through PayPal we accept all major credit cards (Amex, Discover, Visa and Mastercard). You will also have the option of paying without needing to setup a PayPal account. Please do not try and order tickets by going directly to the PayPal site and sending us money. Ticket sales are through the Firefly web site only.

Children at Firefly
-------------------

Children and minors are allowed at Firefly. All participants over 2 years of age will need a ticket for admission. Anyone under 18 years of age must
be accompanied by an adult parent or adult legal guardian. Firefly is not necessarily a child friendly event - it is up to the parent or guardian to decide what is appropriate for their children to see and do. We ask that if you bring children, please act in a safe, sober, and responsible manner, and be aware of where they are at all times.

Learn about Firefly culture
---------------------------

Firefly is all about creating an experience for yourself and others. Please be sure you have read over the web site, especially the Event Guide http://fireflyartscollective.org/tiki-index.php?page=Event+Guide so you have an understanding of the event and your role in it.

Now that you have read all that....

Go pre-register!
Firefly is a participatory event taking place in the wilds of Vermont
every July.

Firefly is a celebration of creativity, community, and fire.
More information can be found at http://fireflyartscollective.org
-=VOLUNTEER=-
Firefly happens only because EVERYONE who attends helps to make it
happen.
Firefly will have a need for help in the usual areas (greeters,
rangers, setup/breakdown, Leave No Trace, criers, etc...).
More details to follow, but start to think about how you can help make
Firefly happen!
Ticket sales will begin sometime in May.

Information on early arrivals for theme camps and art installations
will be announced shortly.

-=CALL FOR TICKET ART=-
Firefly would like to feature your art on this year's Firefly tickets!

If you are interested, please submit complete front side designs that
feature your original artwork that relates to the event as well the
text - "Firefly" and "July 2 - July 5, 2009". The submission deadline
is May 9. Because of the timing, we will only be using a few designs
for printed tickets this year, depending on the quality of work
received. We do have something new planned this year for displaying
all submitted designs, so even if yours doesn't get chosen for a
printed ticket, you will still receive recognition.

Email wagner@fireflyartscollective.org with your designs.
-=MEET THE FIREFLY BOARD=-
Hello Fireflys!

What does the Board do?

The Firefly Board of directors wrangles land, legal, Insurance, safety
and financial issues to create a solid foundation for the rest of the
Firefly community.

In short, we try to create the least restrictive, most supportive
environment we can for Firefly.

We'll be reading and posting to the Firefly Blink list to keep people
informed and up to date. If something important comes up, we'll post
to the list and newsletter.

New Board Members for 2009, with a few words by, or about, each
individual:

Clara LaFrance
A multitalented performance artist, excelling both in Kinetic movement
and total stillness, Humor and gravity.

Jen Hill
This year will be my 5th Firefly. Firefly is something I am proud to
be a part of. I will contribute what I can to make sure Firefly
happens this year, continues in the future, and to see the Firefly
Arts Collective become a more prominent part of our community
throughout the year. I like to take care of others and try to be
prepared for anything, usually resulting in bringing excessive amounts
of stuff to Firefly.

Steve Kosinski
A Brewer.
A hard working, practical Burner.
The kind that tries to keep the rest of us out of trouble...
As if that's possible.

Jonathan MacLeod
Video Artist & environment designer, able to find the lighter side of
the situation. He enjoys all the wonderful and interesting people he
sees through this wonderful event. He works hard to create a more
creatively interesting world.

Sean Stevens
I've been to every Firefly so far.
Firefly opened my eyes to how creative, open community can make the
world a better place.
I deeply enjoy creating technological art.
Firefly presents an incredible opportunity
to share art in an experimental space powered not by commerce, but by
human generosity.
So I'll do whatever I can to make sure Firefly becomes even better.

Joining the existing board members:

Matt Woodward
Another Brewer, Head of the Firefly Rangers.
Matt's been a big part of the behind the scenes documentation
That's helped us see Firefly from a clearer perspective.

Cris Wagner
An artist and social experimenter, Cris has the unique ability to say
everything at once by saying nothing at all... and still have it make
sense.

Leonid Andreev
Video and Installation artist and builder of things. He makes the
glowing things that mark the dark trails at Firefly. Often still
creating while others are dancing, because it's what he loves to do.

Eve Pogoda
Works to bring the awesome because she can.

-=WE WANT YOUR CREATIVITY!=-
Music, Installations, Lights, Interaction, Magic Tricks, Costumes,
Dance, Fire Performance, Acrobatics, Domes, Tee-Pees, Spaceships...
Show us all worlds we've never dreamed of.

Firefly is our place to create the world we want to live in, from the
ground up.
Just make sure it's waterproof and that you take all of it with you
when you leave.

-=GRANTS=-
Firefly is excited to once again offer a grant program to support and
promote your interactive, community-based, creative, collaborative,
radically expressive, kick-ass art. Proposals can include
installations, performances, activities, or other participatory and

WickerMan 2009

The second annual WickerMan is almost upon us! WickerMan is the mid-Atlantic's burn with an Earth Spirited twist. Personal exploration, inspiration without sanction, possibility without constraint. It is on the Land that we become a community of participants, taking action through Art, Fire and Self Expression. WickerMan is an Altar to the Possible on the Land that Sustains us all.

Within this ethos are the gifts of our participants- Theme Camps, Art, Performance and Volunteering. We have a wild and diverse host of registered Theme Camps and Art this year. Experience everything from Flaming Tetherball (yes, that is verbatim) to Spanish flaming liquor rituals and everything in between. You could find yourself leading an impromptu yoga class or rocking your body in Sound Town, an all night aural cornucopia of DJs from across the East Coast, matched by our largest Art Grant ever for deco lighting and decorations.

We started with $6,000 in the Art Grant budget for Artists to fund a variety of initiatives, from Altars to Performance to Installations. And we still have a bit left to give out for late proposals, so do ask! Our Artists are guaranteeing us a visual feast of beautiful little installations, big in-your-face performances and tokens like free noodles or a new 'do.

If Volunteering is your cup of tea, there are many fields where your hands are needed. Consider Ranging to keep WckerMan the litter free event it was last year, or Greeting your fellow burners as they arrive. If swinging a hammer is your thing, then there is a place for you to help build the Man. Set-up Weekend is May 15-17, and that's a head-on collision with what lies behind the curtain. We've ordered the lumber and are preparing our designs for building the WickerMan. Come join the crew to create the biggest effigy east of the Mississippi! Just the normal $10 a night grounds fees apply, day trips are free.

May 21st-25th is the Burn, he flames on Saturday night, early-in and late-out is fine by us. Joe Average registration closes May 9th at $55, Better late than never closes May 19th at $65. And then there is THE GATE.

Visit www.wickermanburn.org for more information and online registrations. Or call the office at 814.784.3080.

Open Event Registration for WickerMan 2009
Set-up May 15-17, The Burn May 21-25

WickerMan is an event that brings together Burn Culture, the Art of Giving, Ecological Responsibility, culminating in an event that depends of the Radical Self-Expression of each individual. Based on the tenets of Burning Man of the Black Rock Desert, we actively incorporate their founding principles- Communal Participation, Decommodification, Radical Inclusion and Radical Self-Reliance. In essence, at WickerMan, Radical Self-Expression Meets Radical Earth Spirit.

We convene to celebrate what we as individuals offer to the community, through Art, Gifting and Self-Reliant Participation. Together we commune within the land to build and burn the biggest Man east of the Mississippi River. Individual participation is what makes this event happen, we depend on each other for content and execution. Every contribution, from Volunteering to Art Creation is essential to facilitate this WickerMan. What can you bring to the table?

Art, in its many mysterious ways, is at the core of this event. WickerMan offers over $6000 to fund a variety of Art initiatives, everything from Theme Camps to beautiful Installations, Altars and Performance. Through Action and Creation we transcend the expected and stretch the paradigm of the possible.

WickerMan will again take place at Four Quarters of Artemas, PA, a beautiful ecologically diverse campground. Four Quarters has natural swimming holes in Sideling Creek, rolling meadows and pine forest. Four Quarters also has a great Ride-Share database to help you carpool to the event. Bring yourself and your inspiration to be a part of a community separate from the 'default world'. Check out www.wickermanburn.org for more information and event registration.
i'll be needing them to build my art contribution to Playa Del Fuego this spring....
the theme of the project adresses childhood abuse so...yeah its a bit of a downer... but it means alot to me and i hope a space can be made for it at the event
i can use any and all shapes and sizes.. as long as they are made of wood... the idea is to burn it on sunday...
my math has me at roughly a thousand blocks.. but i may not need that many...
even wooden toys would work great to as well ie cars, trains whatever!
i live in NH so some of you are very far away... even if you brought them to PDF that would help i a huge way.. i will need MANY extras at the event.. and i mean MANY!
if you had only a select few but wanted to add them to the project for sentimental reasons you can ship them to me, obviously... you can PM me for my address...i will be sure to give them a special place...
if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask here or in a PM.
so start looking in all those old boxes and crates in the basement or attic! even just a few from each of you could make a huge differance!
thank you tons and tons...

That means my room is up for grabs.... yum!

Actually... 2 rooms up for grabs: double yum!

2 of us in my house are moving out in the Fall.
Only Edward is staying in the apartment, and Oh!My!God! will you love Edward.
Expert at sorting trash, doing your dishes, and coming up with insane projects he only sometimes actually takes on. He studies comparative lit at Harvard, practices Qi Gong in the kitchen, and laughs out loud when he is alone (and thinks you can't hear him).

Handsome, friendly, burner type, Edward wants to live with YOU! --and YOU!

One of the rooms is available Sept 1, the other is available a few days into September AND RENT FOR THAT MONTH WILL BE PRORATED.

$500 plus utilities, either room.

THEY ARE BOTH FABULOUS!!!!!

Here's the goodies:
Central Sq, Cambridge, off the red line T, close to EVERYTHING!
Our apartment has a huuuuuge kitchen (it's actually the biggest room in the house!), a living room with the most unpredictable furniture, and an alcove off the hallway we've used alternatively as guest room/meditation room/bike storage.
Enormous basement for storage, playing hide and seek, spider hunting, and so on (really, the basement has offered us some elaborate fun).
The landlord is sweet as a pie, lives in Florida, will never be in your way, and will always be adorable on the phone.
Laundry in building, backyard with very little potential (although it does have some sort of volleyball net strung across it), neighbors are uber friendly.

Come on over and see the rooms!
One is big, sunny, faces the street porch. The other is medium, is painted orange, and has a huuuge closet, amongst other fabulous benefits.

YOU WANT TO LIVE HERE!!!!! MAKE EDWARD SOOOO HAPPY!!!
IT WILL BE THE BEST MOVE OF YOUR LIFE!!!!!!

I love you all....

It's the very last file, just download the pdf and start tutuing! Depending on your size/desired fullness you'll need 6-8 yards tulle. Cut into 3" strips and go to town.

I really had so much fun putting this together and seeing all the people wearing, dancing, sharing, twirling, jumping, stationary cycling for sustainable sound and just generally being awesome in their creations!! I am overcome with such joy at being able to share, and I'm reliving it as I look through the pictures that
everyone so graciously posed for. A few of you told me that you'd always wanted a tutu and even though it's so silly I'm glad that I could facilitate that!!

So I have maid it to the other side of Fire Fly, and I’m once again changed forever. This adventurous weekend was nothing short of successful fun!
Glitch and SB met my expectations then showed me new ones live bye. I had a hard time figuring out with one to be at because the music was sooo sweet. Psylab made that decision for me a couple of times during my seemingly endless quest for dance music. Psylab Rocked! P.S. If you want to see them on the playa please stop in at the Milky Way this Friday and donate to there burning man funds. Thanks to every person who performed! The Fire spinning was amazing, the hopping was amazing, the project were amazing, the sound was just perfect, and best of all the volunteers did an amazing job helping everyone be safe and organized.

There was plenty of mud on the ground this year but mother earth saw all the happiness at Firefly and painted the sky warm blues all day and blessed are dancing souls with cool dry air all night. I soon discovered the importance of placing my tent in the shade next year.

The friends I maid and the ones I already had seamlessly fallowed each other on journeys that could only be described as a portal to the universes most valued secrets, but when you get there you have only enough strength to take one back with you. You can not make the Firefly journey alone. It exists between people not in them alone. I’m always happy every time I see a glowing insect in the night air, but my hart is lost with wonder and joy when hundreds collect together to create a symphony of glowing Fireflies. Thank you all for contributing to each others Firefly experience. I challenge each person to consider what They Will Bring to Firefly Next Year? And witch one of the universes most valued secrets will you take home with you?

Smiles and love to all who made it,

my amazing friends, it's been a magical weekend arThowing with all of you in the woods! your energy is incredible! we share so much love among us that sparkles are fireflying in the starry sky! lets do it all over again, sooner than later!

thanks to all who have given love to our dome of healthy love and healthy lust, SEXODOME, wherein a virgin enters but does not exit (as a virgin, that is :-) so wonderful to see our "girl" (i.e. dome) get some loving action from our community! sexodome is my friend Lufher's brainchild.... although he could not make it this year (waaaaay overloaded at work, working through weekends, serious shit...) we love him and we want his camp to flourish and continue to get sexier and sexier!

we send the hugest bunch of loving hugs and thanks to all our sugar daddies and mommies: SMGU, Sage Burns, John Potts, Katia, Anselmo, and all others who had helped us make this 700 mile journey (for some of us a 1000+ miles!) a success! many wonderful fireflies had joined in the effort of building and decorating our dome! thank you so much!

for next year we are thinking to make the following improvements:

1. make the dome WARMER. perhaps add a fire-safe heater for this purpose. can anyone suggest a good solution for this?
2. put the dome upon wooden pallets, so as to elevate it and make it less prone to getting damp. moTher naTure took it easy on us, and rescheduled this year's rain in our favor :-) next year we might not get this freebie.
3. improve lighting. at first we had none. then some was added (by Katia?). we need to think this through better for next year.
4. provide more variety of condoms.
5. add more sex toys. a fucking machine might be available for next year! make your reservations now! :-)
6. add a bar? :-) the "sexobar" might serve drinks with mysterious herbal ingredients? ummm, sounds intriguing :-)
7. ummmmm finish construction earlier? :-) we took too long to put the dome together on friday, and Katia's workshop could not happen at 2pm on friday.... sorry!!!!!!

the sexodome tribe is tribes.tribe.net/sexodome

we would love to hear from you and stay in touch!
if you have any feedback -- positive or negative -- please do send it our way!

love, peace, and a plenTy of arThou!
What's better than a colorful tutu? Making it yourself of course! DIY Costumefest's mission is to arm as many adults as possible with crazy hats, embellished clothing, and of course tutu's!

Come on down and make yourself something exciting! I will have everything you need to make a colorful tutu, very little sewing required and I will provide all the materials and supplies! I only have enough for the first 60 participants (give or take) so get down early if you want a tutu to run and skip in!

In addition to tutu's, I'll have some old sweaters and tshirts plus all the tools and help you need to create a hat or to embellish something you already own. If you have a tacky old sweater/shirt that needs new life donate it to DIY Costumefest 2008 for someone else to use as a base for their creation. If you have spools of ribbon, bells, buttons or anything you think would make a great decoration bring it down to share while you make something fun for yourself.

I'm not sure exactly where I will be setting up, but I'm going to shoot for the clearing. Keep your eyes out for a red canopy, tons of tutu supplies, and a crazy lady with pink hair jumping around. And not to mention the sign saying DIY Costumefest 2008!!

Come during daylights hours and feel the satisfaction of making something with your hands, and the joy of wearing it as you dance and skip through the forest.

I'm getting antsy. I had such plans for this years Firefly, I was really glad to snag a ticket, and I was excited to have the change to bring a beloved of mine to experience the event for the first time. When I saw the general announcement about the unforeseen problems with the location,as well as a possible date shift, I put everything on hold. The thing is, while I'm confident that the board members are doing all they can, with it now being June, I'm feeling not as confident about things getting resolved for this year. On one hand I really want to have faith and be optimistic. On the other hand, with no new info, I'm starting to wonder if this will mean I may have to bail. The summertime is rife with so many fabulous festivles and big events. So many of us go to Burning Man, Pennsic, Wildfire, and Dragon Con, just to name a few. I'm crossing my fingers that we find out, hopefully this week, if we're at least sticking to the original date. That's what I'm more concerned with. New location? I'm sure we can make it work. New date and time? That's so much harder. I'm worried that if we have a date changge too much later then the original date, I simply won't be able to go, due to it being too close to Pennsic. I'm likewise just as concerned that this will mean many more people, people who are vital to making Firefly an awesome event, will have timing conflicts of their own. I worry about how this may make the event suffer, as a result.
Does anyone know anything? Are the board members any closer to deciding what's going to happen?

Firefly is happening! It is a go!
July 3 - 6, Northern Vermont, at a new site very close to the past one.
(Same date, different location.)

An unexpected, non-negotiable problem arose with using the original
location, but we were able to find another site for Firefly in the same
area thanks to the dedication of an elite recon team headed up by Sandy!
The general terrain and climate is similar but the site needs lots of love
and preparation as it has not been used for a festival before. This is
where the Firefly community comes together and creates something beautiful -
there are new challenges to be met and new opportunities for fun - so
step up and bring forth your flowers, machinery, and able hands!

Your help is needed to make Firefly happen!
Most especially, volunteer for a work weekend to help build the
infrastructure needed to make the event possible.
More information about other ways to help coming soon!

There are 2 work weekends (June 14-15 and June 21-22).

Please sign-up for either or both weekends by e-mailing the
appropriate coordinator:

work1@fireflyartscollective.org [June 14-15]
work2@fireflyartscollective.org [June 21-22]

Info to Provide:
1. Who you are.
2. If you need a ride, or have space in your car for others.
3. If you have any handy skills such as carpentry or ditch digging....
4. If you have any tools that you will be bringing.
5. If you will be working on a personal project or theme camp - hands are
greatly needed to work on overall site prep, so please plan to spend part
of the weekend working on community projects as well.

Details and Directions will be sent to those who are signed-up.

THEME CAMPS & Large Art: it is especially recommended you attend a work
weekend (preferably the first one) so you can prepare a site (finding one,
cutting down saplings, creating a fire pit, what have you).
Contact both the relevant work weekend coordinator listed above and the
art and theme camps coordinator - art@fireflyartscollective.org
with your plans and notions.

There will be more information about Firefly and other ways to volunteer
and be a part of Firefly shortly. Tickets will be mailed! Let the massive
rallying of the forces commence!
If you have questions, please ask! Use the blink list or email directly to
info@fireflyartscollective.org

We can do it!! Let's go have some fun in the woods!!
So say we all!!
the land of ampersandy, was built by a firefly,
she could take the people with her thru her dazzling razzamaTAZ!

doot doot doot doot - da doot da doot da do-oo

if i may spout about the land of ampersandy....

don't worry, it won't hurt
now you are under the spell of the green man's ginger...

this firefly has quite the acumen,
holding unconditional love for every type of human
although she tends to be practically illusive
to those not prepared to be radically inclusive

the first of ten insightful thoughts she holds dear
when dazzling the razzamaTAZ we do our best to adhere
we come best prepared and rely on ourselves
to charm the pixies, the sprites, & the elves
so that they may befriend us and instead pranks
they may bless us with the everlasting joy of spanks
we know stress to impress is illusion of oppression
and get down and dirty with the radical self-expression
we water our plants with just as much care
as we would each others', as we collectively share
immediately with the moment & every happenstance
we deconstruct our barriers as we prepare to dance

the firefly sends you this transmission - in order to burn she request your ignition

by drawing & dancing, sculpting & spinning,
painting, projecting, writing & singing,
silk flying & screaming, building & breathing
jamming & spanking, glitching & beating,
stringing & stretching, hooping & humming
mixing & mash uping, teaching & strumming,

spread the good word! for art she calls! - be fine or unfinished the bug welcomes all!
on getting prepared over what the moon does
this year the land will be shown the new moon
of this they warn we may wish to attune

while new beginnings are born on this night
it remains the darkest; we aim to be bright!
let our art shine & blink & radiantly glow

Firefly is a community of some of the most creative people in New England and beyond. Each year we come together to be inspired by the woods and by each other. Making and sharing art is central to our collective vision.

If you are an experienced artist, we would love for you and your work to join us. If you are just beginning to explore your creativity, Firefly is an ideal environment in which to experiment. Here the strange is welcomed, and art does not need to make money to be valuable or impress anyone to find a home
and an open-minded audience.

Creating art for Firefly is one of the best ways to participate!

INSTALLATION
Firefly creates a unique relationship between the
natural and the artificial. Some of our favorite
memories are of works of art placed in special natural
environments where they suddenly seem to belong. In
past years Firefly explorers have come across a rose
garden in the woods, a glowing galaxy in the meadow,
disco balls hung from trees, and a winged frog sitting
above a brook. We would love to see more sculpture and
installation art, and we have plenty of space for it.

PERFORMANCE
DJ's, bands, and performers of all types are essential
to Firefly. The festival is full of opportunities for
jamming and imporvised performance. Scheduled
performances with amplified sound are also possible
when a performer collaborates with a camp that is able
to provide a sound system. If you are a performer, you
can turn your camp into your ideal venue, or use the
discussion lists to find another camp to host you.
___If you need help finding a place to
play, contact our music coordinator at:
performance@fireflyartscollective.org

FIRE
Fireflies love fire performance and all types of fire
art. These things happen in designated areas with
respect for safety, of course.
For more information write to:
fire@fireflyartscollective.org.

DANCE
For many insects, dancing is an important form of
communication. For many humans, it is a reason to
exist. Come dance with us.

VIDEO
VJ art and video screenings are also an important part
of Firefly. In the past theme camps have provided
projectors and screens. If you have something to show,
use the discussion lists to find a camp that would
like to screen it.

GLOWING ***note note- it's a new moon!***
Of course Fireflies' favorite activity of all is
glowing. At night our village lights up with lasers,
LED's, EL wire, glow sticks, and blacklight painting.
Glowing art is always welcome.

COSTUME
This is your opportunity to dress how you feel, or
become a character from your own mythology.

CAMPING
You need a home at Firefly, and your home can be your art, or a home for your friends' art. For more info see:
http://www.fireflyartscollective.org/tiki-index.php?page=Themecamps

GIFTS
Firefly is a gift economy-- you may want to make
something special to share. Gifts of food and drink
are always appreciated.

WHATEVER
If you make art that does not fit into any of the
categories on this page, we'd especially like to
experience it.

SPACE
Your creativity can turn a clearing in the woods into
a perfect place for meditation, ritual, dancing,
performance, chilling, teaching, or partying. Wide,
flat, open spaces are rare at Firefly. However, if you
design your project to fit among the trees, you will
have many beautiful sites from which to choose. There
is no official system for assigning or reserving
sites. As long as you show respect for your neighbors,
your project can go wherever you choose.

POWER
Electricity is available in limited areas. If your
project requires it, write to dpw@fireflyartscollective.org,
or use the discussion lists to find a camp with a generator.

PLANNING
Firefly is a Leave No Trace event. This means your
project should be planned to have minimal impact on
the land, and you will be expected to remove it
entirely at the end of the event. Often nature puts
Firefly to the test with rain, mud, and cold. Don't
let this scare you, but be prepared for an adventure.
Shuttles are generally available to move supplies from
the parking area to the event and back, but shuttle
service can be interrupted by unforeseen
circumstances. If your site does not happen to be near
the main road, you may need to move your gear quite a
ways on foot. If you're new to Firefly and you're
planning something big, use the discussion lists to
network with experienced Firefly artists and learn
what to expect.

HEAD-STARTS
If you would like to start setting up your project
before the event, you are welcome to join us for the
Work Weekends. We ask that you and your crew also
devote some time to infrastructure projects that are
necessary to the entire event. When planning, remember
that gear you bring in over several days may be
difficult to remove in one day at the end of the
festival.

CONTACT
You don't need permission to bring your art to
Firefly, but if you're planning something, we'd love
to hear from you. Send a brief description of your
project to art@fireflyartscollective.org and we can
add it to the web site. Also feel free to write to
that address with any questions for Firefly planners.

POSSIBILITY
Anything is possible at Firefly with collaboration
between participants. If you have an idea but need
volunteers, advice, or resources to make it happen,
posting to the Discussion Lists and Tribe is the best
way to find them.

Hey you! You are cordially invited to participate in the epic FOURTH Annual Boston Bunny Barhop! That's right, come spread springtime cheer whilst making a total ass of yourself!

WHAT: A good ol'-fashioned barhop in bunny ears. We will move together as a boisterous band of boozed-up bunnies, hopping from bar to bar to bar to bar to bar, grabbing a real-quick drink at each spot, giving out high fives, and just generally sticking it to the Man.

WHEN: Easter weekend, of course. Friday, March 21st. First drink of the night around 9 p.m.

WHERE: Cambridge, MA. Starting-line bar = Miracle of Science Bar & Grill, 321 Mass Ave.

------- THE SORDID DETAILS -------

GLOWINESS!: We like to establish as glorious a street presence as possible, so we encourage maximum GLOW-iness! Please deck your bad self out with glowsticks, LEDs, EL-wire, lasers, flamethrowers, or, like, whatever!

HOTLINE!: The Bunny Barhop Hotline will be open all night. Participants may call the number: (508) 265-9141 and get minute-to-minute updates on the current location of the 'Hop. Come join the rabble at any time (though we'd love to have you there for the whole ugly drunken affair, start to finish).

ROUTE!: There's a planned route for the 'Hop, hitting hotspots (and freaking out squares!) down Mass Ave toward Harvard Square. Traditionally we get as far as The People's Republik (876 Mass Ave), so proactive designated drivers may wish to park around this area at the beginning of the night.

LOVE!: We welcome rabbits of all cliques, circles, & crews. Throw on your ears, come on down, and make a mass of instant new drunken friends!

RULES!: There is only one hard n' fast rule (say it with us, people): RABBIT EARS MANDATORY. Seriously. Fashion them out of construction paper. Grab them from the Easter aisle of your friendly neighborhood drugstore. Maim a stuffed animal. Just wear the frickin' ears.

Questions & suggestions may be directed to your friendly rabbit coordinators:

Hi!
I wanted to let everyone know about a new burn, and I am part of the planning team for it, so my opinion is biased!

The burn is "Wicker Man," to be held Thursday through Monday, Memorial Day weekend; and we have a setup weekend, the weekend before. We are trying to lay the groundwork that will grow into a full-on burn, with an amazing site, roads for art cars, a $4,000 art grant budget and plans for a stupendous effigy.

We will be using Four Quarters as our site, which has the rep as one of the most edgy and progressive non-profit camps on the east coast. They have given us their full support for Wicker Man. Four Quarters has a piped water system, hot showers, flush toilets and of course port-a-potties. Buried power lines for their bio-fueled camp generator, a covered stage and three swimming holes. Lots of camping under tall trees and out in the sun too. And 2 miles of gravelled roads. Four Quarters is located 100 miles west of DC and Baltimore, just off I-68.

We want to develop a burn that is art focused and will support big art. And one that has a vision of the future of burns that is sustainable, ecologically responsible and leaves behind a small foot print. Thus "Wicker Man;" the old celebration of the Green Man and Green energy. We already have over 20 theme camps and art projects registered, and we are just beginning our announcements. We plan to have three "Theme Towns." "Sound Town," where we can run sound all night long, like the Gaian MInd psytrance festival held at Four Quarters. "Sin City" down along the river, a cure for what ever ails you. And "Center Circle," a place for nature and spirit; held inside the amazing stone circle at Four Quarters. (Yes, there is a circle of standing stones and they are BIG!)

And then there is the Man. Planned at 35 feet high our man stands on a round Temple to the Spirit of Fire, a big enough room that you can enter and place your own art and offerings to the burn. The roof of the temple is a deck upon which stands the Man, and people can stand too.. His belly is the Upper Temple, with room for just one person at a time. Each of his arms will hold a flaming fire pot, and we hope, will move as he burns. This is a huge project and we are looking to get as many people involved in his construction as possible. Ground breaking for the Man is Friday, May 9th, and then the next two weekends until he burns.

I could go on and on, but our web site is up, with the first design drawings for the Man, pictures of art grant projects and theme camps. We have a list serve / forum too. So visit the web site at wickermanburning.org for much more info.
Experience not neccessary, however we are looking for people who have confidence making things and performing in front of people. Must be will to challenge ones self and be willing to perform in bizarre, sometime uncomfortable costumes.

Malverna Brown.

It's the type of place that really needs its own name.

Join our beautiful house. Our community. Our house meals, our jams, our events, and classes. Get inspired and run off to do your own project or see if someone wants to collaborate. Everyone brings different skills and passions to the table.

The focus of the house is in the public spaces. We maximize play space.

People are usually pretty impressed when they walk up to the third floor music studio. Ready to jam, ready to record. It has a lot of interesting things that make sounds, and often times people in there who produce some good musica. Thursdays have turned into "jam nights" and the neighbors still seem to like us.

Who needs a living room anyway? Ours was quickly transformed into a dance studio. Every once in a while there's a class there. Other days there may be a massage, or one of the housemates just stretching. And on other nights the screen is pulled down to watch the new Netflix installment.

The second floor public space doubles as an arts & crafts room as well as an office. There may be an upholstery project underway or a human tinkering with wires to produce a robot. And don't forget the aquatron which produces the tunes. Two of us often work there during the day. A web developer and college art professor. The activist and massage therapist go elsewhere for their careers.

The backyard is a public space that changes over the course of the year. In the warmer months some of the housemates get into gardening, and during the colder months we've found solace in our new little hottub. A new acquisition thanks to the guy who's place you'd be taking.

The last, and arguably most important public space is the kitchen. It's big, and beautiful and pretty clean. Really. The kitchen is buzzing a couple nights of week in the preparation for the house meals. People here can cook too.

In fact, they have to.

Each person cooks one night a week. Meaning you will too. That's one of our rules.

Yes, we're artists, but there are rules - community works better when there's a little structure. Most of the housemates, who range in age from 27-40, have lived in cooperative living situations before, so they garnered the best of all those past experiences. Yes, there's a chore wheel. We pay for food collectively and have a great system that simplifies all the expenses. We have a house meeting whenever we need to talk something through... but things really run smoothly, so we probably only meet once every two months.

We want a fresh infusion of energy. What are you into? What's your favorite game? What's your favorite stretch? What's your favorite thing to cook? What do you practice?

So the bedrooms are the smallest rooms in the house and your bedroom is also the smallest of the bedrooms, but you'll pay less than the rest of us. The room also has its own porch, a long porch, and the view is nice. Downtown Boston. There's a lofted bed in there now that can be removed if you want.

What else...

washing, dryer, & dish washer. internet. big basement for storage space and a nice workarea. Forest Hills and the Arboretum are less than 2 miles. a nice landlord and neighbors. It's a family area, and a fairly diverse community. there's a moat around the perimeter.

Ok, there's no moat.

Write back and give us a taste of who you are and what you'd bring to this house. Looking forward to some interesting reading.

Peace

Hello Citizen of the World,

Firefly, the New England Regional Burn, is looking
for land... and we need your help!

We have been extremely lucky to have had a home in
Vermont the past four years, but issues with the land
and event growing pains are making it necessary for us
to explore other options.

The basic requirements for land for Firefly are:
-Within 4ish-hour drive from Boston.
-Enough land for 500+ people to camp and cavort on.
(Past sites have been ~100 acres. While large is good,
we don't necessarily need a bigger space and depending
on the the layout, a significantly smaller site could
also work.)
-Parking capacity for 200+ cars.
-Isolated enough that 24/hr music and noise will not
disturb neighbors.
-Permits fire.

If you have any leads, we'd love to hear about them.

Please send suggestions to the Firefly Land Search
Committee at fireflyland@xuth.net.
Think big! Think small! Think high! Think low!

Send a brief description of what you would like to contribute (mini-theme camp, installation, etc) to your cruise director, Katy with a Y, at decomparticipate@gmail.com If you've got an idea in the works, but don't have finalized plans, I'd still love to hear from you so!!! We're going to be organizing the event around the proposals we get from you!

If you are interested in being part of the DJ line-up, please contact the lovely and talented Eartha Harris at eartha.harris@gmail.com

Keep in mind that if you can't participate by doing any of the above, we will be needing LOTS of volunteers for the greeters station, decorating, moop clean-up, etc.

Can't wait to hear from you!!

We have heard that Miss APOGAEA (Colorado), Miss Firefly (New England) and Miss Nowhere (Spain) will be participating - and Miss BRC 2006 has started rumors that she will be back to uphold her title. It is going to be an awesome year!

THE MISS BLACK ROCK CITY PROJECT: Taking beauty out of the hands of corporate America

.... is proud to announce two playa events for 2007

MISS BLACK ROCK CITY TIARA MAKING WORKSHOP
Wednesday, 3:30pm-5:30pm
Disorient (830 + esplanade)
If you are thinking of participating in the Miss Black Rock City Pageant on Thursday afternoon, or if you just want a funky tiara/headpiece/crown to match that special costume, stop by and make something super fancy from fuzzy chenille stems. Like all our events, all men and women (and any combination thereof!) are welcome – even the little misses and misters can do it! You'll be amazed at what you can create. StacycatS of the MBRC Project will also be on hand to answer any questions about the pageant, so come say hello! Look for us at the Hut of the Glam Tech Warrior within Disorient.

MISS BLACK ROCK CITY 2007: PAGEANT OF SELF-PROCLAIMED BEAUTIES
Thursday, 5pm-6pm
Boogie Universal ARTS Collective (9 + esplanade)
Represent your village, your camp, your art, your tent, or just yourself! Participants (open to all men + women) will reveal their unique inner beauty in these three categories: 1) Style 2) Two Minute Talent Competition: No rules, everyone has a talent be it a stupid party trick or a fine art! and 3) Interview: Do they do it for world peace, the children, or for the puppies? All finalists are beautiful and everyone wins by participating. Fabulous gifts include custom handmade tiaras and the Miss Black Rock City sash. Hosted by StacycatS.

NOTE: No Beauty pageant is fair, bribes are encouraged. Participate for fun rather than play to win!

Photos of prize tiaras for this pageant can be seen at the Miss Black Rock City tribe: http://MBRC.tribe.net

Check out the Miss Black Rock City website for photos, our theme song, and info on past events. http://missblackrockcity.com
I first and foremost have to say i had an AMAZING time at firefly this year. Not only was it my first but it was truly memorable and i am glad i was given the opportunity to work with some of the most awsome people ever.

L.E.A.F. did such an outstanding job with not only the set up, but the breaking down of what was a spectacular display. I had left on sunday with a van STOCK piled with belongings. Some of those belongings are still here (a list i will put together later) and will be here in safe keeping. However one item that was mistakingly picked up by someone was my sleeping bag. Please please please, if you see a feather light sleeping bag stuffed in a small black sac, PLEASE give me a call. I bought that only hours before heading to Vermont and I'm too poor to loose an investment such as. I can of course part ways without shedding tears but I may break into periodic moment of silence for my poor bag.

Forestdance Mass. and Costa Rica Updates

Hi folks,

Registration for Forestdance Costa Rica is officially open. Come and do the sacred at the foot of Costa Rica’s largest waterfall, the Diamante Falls. Our hosts there from the Art of Union came to the very first Forestdance in Georgia during the Harmonic Concordance in 2003. The gathering in Costa Rica will be the 10th Forestdance since that magical week. This gathering will be Feb. 19th-23rd. Registration includes meals, and people are welcome to come a couple of days early and stay late for a small fee for lodging and food.

To check availability and rates for flights I suggest trying Spirit Air. You will need to fly into San Jose, and from there either rent a car, take a $3 bus to Musoc and a $12 cab ride to the town of San Salvador, or book a space on a shuttle van from the airport. The retreat at Diamante Sanctuary is called Heaven on Mother Earth, or H.O.M.E., and it is indeed a lush and immaculate taste of paradise. We will be truly blessed to be together on that sacred land, doing what we love to do.

Forestdance Massachusetts is just around the corner over the week surrounding Labor Day. There will be 8 seed groups to choose from. Read more about what the seed groups are about on the main site. The gathering runs from Aug. 29th- Sept. 4th. Wednesday and Thursday we will be settling in together, with a short fire on Thursday night. We will do all night fires for three night in a row from Friday to Monday morning. Monday and Tuesday will be integration days with connecting, heart sharing, entertainment, and community building exercises. Seed groups will run every day, and will run at different times, so each attendee can be part of more than one. Here are your choices with the name of the hub facilitator:

Vocal Magic: Billy Bardo
Herbalism & the Root Fire: Una Gallagher
Yoga: Lotus
Sustainability: Joel Sindelar & Orion Kriegman
Spoken Work/Speak your World: Travis Bowman
Percussion Around the Fire: Jon Holland and Lisa Bouchie
Body Workers/Healers Group: Missy Wilreker
Sacred Movement and Dance: Shakti Rowan

For descriptions, bios, other class information and tons of additional info, check out www.Forestdance.net.

This is an amazing alternative if you can't make it to Burning Man this year. You'll still get a deep dose of the fire and come home with a big ol' bucket full of inspiration.

This year our gathering is being brought to you by the heARTbeatcollective: Healing and Expressive ARTists for Balance, Ecology, Awareness, and Transformation. Find out more about this new group at www.heARTbeatcollective.org.

Looking forward to seeing you around the fire,

Miss Transformus 2007: Pageant of Self-Proclaimed Beauties
www.missblackrockcity.com

Represent your village, your camp, your art, your tent, or just yourself! Miss Transformus 2007 is a wild pageant spoof and a celebration of the many faces of Transformus, all wrapped up in one crazy hour of fun. This is not your mother's beauty pageant. Anyone can enter! Plastic surgery, an eating disorder, Vaselined teeth and double-sided tape are not required. We want to see your inner beauty, show us who you are!

What better way to rev up a massive sonic !!!!!BOOM!!!!! of energy for the burn than by being all together, getting to know the unique beauties that Transformus has to offer!?!?!

This is how it works:
Saturday, Pre-Burn Time (9-10pm)
Mainstage

9pm sharp: All participants (women, men, and every combination thereof - everyone is welcome!) line up to Spank the Wine, hosted by New York's Camp Whisky Whores. Boxed wine is very bad, you see... the the bladder that lies within must be spanked. Show us how you do it, people!

After the Spank the Wine, participants are invited to:
1) show us their style
2) share their talent - everyone has a talent be it a fine art or stupid party trick (two minutes or less, please!)
3) answer an interview question, written by other participants and / or the audience.

No eliminations are made during the event. The beautiful chain-stitched sash is tossed out at the end like a bouquet at a wedding. It is up to you to get it! Handmade tiaras will be given away to as many participants as possible. Everyone is a winner!

WARNING: No beauty pageant is fair. Bribery of anyone claiming to be a Judge is encouraged. Participate for fun rather than play to win!

Get to know StacycatS Saturday afternoon at the tiara making workshop. It is easy, and fun. All Mysterians are invited to make a headpiece / crown / tiara. Kids welcome! Photos of our onplaya tiara workshop can be found at: http://www.missblackrockcity.com/galleries/MBRC06_tiara/index.html Exact time / location to be announced soon.
