-=WHAT IS FIREFLY?=-
Firefly is a participatory event taking place in the wilds of Vermont
every July.
Firefly is a celebration of creativity, community, and fire.
More information can be found at fireflyartscollective.org
Please note that we are just warming up for the 2009 event, so parts
of the website may not be current.
-=VOLUNTEER=-
Firefly happens only because EVERYONE who attends helps to make it
happen.
Firefly will have a need for help in the usual areas (greeters,
rangers, setup/breakdown, Leave No Trace, criers, etc...).
More details to follow, but start to think about how you can help make
Firefly happen!
Before you book the time off work, or think about the art you want to
share...
Please think how you can volunteer...
Don't rely on others to do it!
-=DATES AND TICKETING=-
Firefly will happen July 2nd-5th this year.
Ticket sales will begin sometime in May.
Information on early arrivals for theme camps and art installations
will be announced shortly.
-=CALL FOR TICKET ART=-
Firefly would like to feature your art on this year's Firefly tickets!
If you are interested, please submit complete front side designs that
feature your original artwork that relates to the event as well the
text - "Firefly" and "July 2 - July 5, 2009". The submission deadline
is May 9. Because of the timing, we will only be using a few designs
for printed tickets this year, depending on the quality of work
received. We do have something new planned this year for displaying
all submitted designs, so even if yours doesn't get chosen for a
printed ticket, you will still receive recognition.
Email wagner@fireflyartscollective.org with your designs.
The details:
"Firefly" and "July 2 - July 5,2009" must be featured
300dpi or higher resolution
2"x4 1/2" image size, no borders
pdf, Illustrator, Photoshop, png, high quality jpeg
Please contact me with any questions.
-=MEET THE FIREFLY BOARD=-
Hello Fireflys!
What does the Board do?
The Firefly Board of directors wrangles land, legal, Insurance, safety
and financial issues to create a solid foundation for the rest of the
Firefly community.
In short, we try to create the least restrictive, most supportive
environment we can for Firefly.
We'll be reading and posting to the Firefly Blink list to keep people
informed and up to date. If something important comes up, we'll post
to the list and newsletter.
New Board Members for 2009, with a few words by, or about, each
individual:
Clara LaFrance
A multitalented performance artist, excelling both in Kinetic movement
and total stillness, Humor and gravity.
Jen Hill
This year will be my 5th Firefly. Firefly is something I am proud to
be a part of. I will contribute what I can to make sure Firefly
happens this year, continues in the future, and to see the Firefly
Arts Collective become a more prominent part of our community
throughout the year. I like to take care of others and try to be
prepared for anything, usually resulting in bringing excessive amounts
of stuff to Firefly.
Steve Kosinski
A Brewer.
A hard working, practical Burner.
The kind that tries to keep the rest of us out of trouble...
As if that's possible.
Jonathan MacLeod
Video Artist & environment designer, able to find the lighter side of
the situation. He enjoys all the wonderful and interesting people he
sees through this wonderful event. He works hard to create a more
creatively interesting world.
Sean Stevens
I've been to every Firefly so far.
Firefly opened my eyes to how creative, open community can make the
world a better place.
I deeply enjoy creating technological art.
Firefly presents an incredible opportunity
to share art in an experimental space powered not by commerce, but by
human generosity.
So I'll do whatever I can to make sure Firefly becomes even better.
Joining the existing board members:
Matt Woodward
Another Brewer, Head of the Firefly Rangers.
Matt's been a big part of the behind the scenes documentation
That's helped us see Firefly from a clearer perspective.
Cris Wagner
An artist and social experimenter, Cris has the unique ability to say
everything at once by saying nothing at all... and still have it make
sense.
Leonid Andreev
Video and Installation artist and builder of things. He makes the
glowing things that mark the dark trails at Firefly. Often still
creating while others are dancing, because it's what he loves to do.
Eve Pogoda
Works to bring the awesome because she can.
-=WE WANT YOUR CREATIVITY!=-
Music, Installations, Lights, Interaction, Magic Tricks, Costumes,
Dance, Fire Performance, Acrobatics, Domes, Tee-Pees, Spaceships...
Show us all worlds we've never dreamed of.
Firefly is our place to create the world we want to live in, from the
ground up.
Just make sure it's waterproof and that you take all of it with you
when you leave.
-=GRANTS=-
Firefly is excited to once again offer a grant program to support and
promote your interactive, community-based, creative, collaborative,
radically expressive, kick-ass art. Proposals can include
installations, performances, activities, or other participatory and
interactive projects. Grants can be for projects in theme camps, but
generally not for camps themselves.
The submission deadline is coming up: Monday, May 11th, 11PM.
